The Do Drop Inn

Jessie and Annie May Turman were proprietors of this popular gathering spot for African Americans in Beloit in the 1940’s and ‘50’s. With restrictions in some of Beloit’s eating and lodging places, African Americans were welcome at the Do Drop Inn. Located at 208 Park Ave, the restaurant was situated in the primarily African American Community. The Turmans lived upstairs, the restaurant was located on the main floor and there were extra rooms that were rented out. Jessie and Annie hosted family dinners and gatherings when their family came to town.
